A world of Florette salads

The cooking students of the María Madre School in Burgos, Javier Bañuelos and Sara Sáinz, were proclaimed winners of the competition organised by Florette, with their salad of curried sautéed prawns, apples and almonds.

The prize, which consists of two weeks’ training at the Martín Berasategui catering school, was presented by the famous Lasarte-based chef in person and the sales manager of Florette, Fermín Aldaz..

Over twenty different salads were prepared by over fifty students from seven cooking schools in northern Spain. The salad prepared by the winners was praised for its presentation, flavour and originality. The jury panel consisted of the chefs Martín Berasategui and Ferran Adrià, the director of the conference Rafael García Santos and the general manager of Sodena, José María Aracama.

Hundreds of people attended the event and then got the chance to taste some of the thousand salads prepared by the 23 cooking teams that participated in this second Florette salad competition. All the ingredients were supplied by Florette.

The participating schools were:

  • San Lorenzo Secondary School of Huesca
  • María Madre School in Burgos
  • Burgos School of Catering and Tourism School
  • Virgen de la Calle Secondary School of Palencia
  • Gamarra School of Vitoria-Gasteiz
