Excursion: Asparagus harvest in Navarre

Place: Plaza Baluarte, conference attendees and professionals.

Thanks to the efforts of PRODECASA, the Grupo AN and Caja Navarra, close to thirty conference attendees and their partners were able to witness for themselves the whole white asparagus process from picking to distribution.

Presentation of "Olus Tecnología"

Place: Exhibition room, open to the public.

Price: Free of charge.

Olus Tecnología, an affiliate of Sodena, creates high added value products to provide a basis for research focused on vegetables. This business project seeks to put research centres and universities in contact with companies in the vegetable industry.

The agri-food industry in Navarre accounts for a sizable percentage (13.2%) of Spain’s industrial production and the region has the highest number of companies that prepare and preserve vegetables and fruit.

The creation of Olus is yet another step in the development of the ‘Proyecto Vive’, a research project that was implemented in the agri-food sector in 2007.

Pocha beans for all with Gutarra

Place: Mezzanine Room of the Baluarte Conference Centre, open to the public.

Price: Free of charge.

One of the most highly appreciated of Navarrese garden produce is the pocha bean. The canning company Gutarra offered a tasting of these fresh white beans, cooked with vegetables following tradition, at a gigantic public gathering where 800 portions of this delicious pulse were served.

Navarre tapas and wine tunnel

Place: Baluarte, open to the public.

From 12 to 14 May, twenty renowned establishments from all over Spain served some of the best tapas in the country at the Baluarte, accompanied by the most noble of Navarra Wines. Baluarte thus became a macro-space for tapas and a unique opportunity to taste the best our bars have to offer.

The conference attendee’s table

Place: Terrace of the Baluarte restaurant, first floor, speakers, conference attendees and journalists.

Speakers, conference attendees and journalists met at the restaurant to exchange opinions on the talks. There were free tastings of Caviar del Reyno, Joselito’s ham and charcuterie, Florette salads, Gutarra vegetable menestra and pocha beans, Alkorta cod pil-pil and ajoarriero style and an assortment of Martiko products, including smoked salmon fillet, foie-gras terrines, fresh duck liver and duck confit. There was also D.O. Roncal cheese, Navarre beef and lamb, products from the Cooperativa Avícola Navarra, Conservas Ría, and Prodecasa, as well as fresh asparagus and artichokes, preserved Lodosa Piquillo peppers, and several ready-meals and desserts made by Horno Artesano. All of it was accompanied by excellent Navarre Wines.

Tasting of asparagus

Lugar: Plaza de Baluarte, open to the public.

Precio: Free of charge.

The company Angel Ría distributed 50 kilos of asparagus at this public event attended by the townspeople of Pamplona and many others from outside the capital. The Plaza de Baluarte was the perfect setting for tasting this traditional gourmet vegetable that is so closely linked to the fields and kitchens of Navarre.

Tasting of Navarre lamb

Place: Plaza de Baluarte, open to the public.

Price: Free of charge.

The D.O. Cordero de Navarra sponsored this event at which a thousand portions of roast lamb were distributed.

From early morning everyone present had the chance to witness the whole process which culminates in the roasting of the lamb in wood-fired ovens... Truly tempting smells and flavours.

Congress Dinner - Maher

Place: Terrace on the first floor of the Baluarte restaurant, by invitation.

Price: €100.

Reyno Gourmet workshop

Place: Professional tasting room, conference attendees and professionals.

Reyno Gourmet made a space available for conference attendees and professionals who came to the Fair where all of the region’s products could be enjoyed from a multi-sensorial perspective.

  • Walk through / Introduction to Navarra Wines. Price: €3 per person.
    Every day during the congress, beginners’ wine tasting sessions were held for groups of 25-30 people from 7.00 pm to 8.00 pm. with the cooperation of the Control Board of D.O. Navarra. Six Navarra Wines were tasted each day. The tastings were led by Control Board oenologists and technicians.
